What Privalume detects and what you must review yourself
Privalume does not “understand” a document or guarantee that every sensitive detail will be found. The beta runs rules in the browser to suggest matches. You decide what to keep or replace and must review the complete result.
Categories the rules can flag
Rules look for patterns consistent with names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, Spanish identity numbers, IBANs, cards with a basic validity check, dates, amounts, organisations and some health or minor references. Coverage depends on the text.
- Review the passage and context before accepting a match.
- Check unusual or international formats.
- Add any detail the rules missed during manual review.
Why false positives happen
A sequence can resemble a phone number, date or amount without being personal data. A name may be a brand or place. Privalume shows context and lets you keep a match instead of applying invisible changes.
- Do not replace every match automatically.
- Check numbers and abbreviations against the source.
- Confirm that replacements preserve meaning.
Why false negatives happen
Rules do not know every name, code, alias, circumstance or identifying combination. They cannot read text inside images. An empty list means the active rules found nothing, not that the document is anonymous.
- Read the full document after analysis.
- Search for references, locations and distinctive facts.
- Use approved external OCR for scanned PDFs, then review the extracted text.
What happens when a copy is prepared
The beta replaces confirmed items and rebuilds a separate TXT, DOCX or PDF. The source stays unchanged. Rebuilding reduces inherited properties, but can simplify layout and does not preserve signatures, comments or complex elements.
- Compare source and copy.
- Open the export and inspect text, name and properties.
- Do not share until content and residual exposure are checked.
Limitations to keep in mind
- There is no OCR, image analysis, general semantic understanding or legal validation.
- Rules can miss personal data and flag harmless text.
- Privalume supports review and minimisation; it does not certify anonymisation, GDPR compliance or absolute security.
